-DEEP END Custom Skate Decks-

Deep End is a division of Pool King Skateboards.  Deep End Skate Decks will be an outlet for a series of specialty decks.  Pool King has plans for limited amounts of hand painted, grip taped, and inked one of a kind decks by skate deck artist Jeff Tatum featured under the Deep End label.  JT has been doing skate deck art for 30 years and over the last few years his stuff has been getting lots of exposure worldwide.  Tatum has been designing art campaigns for some new Midwest skate parks including decks, logos, stickers, signs, t-shirts, etc.  Jeff also heads the Pool King art department which has had great success with JT’s designs.

Tatum is a core skater and knows how to draw for skaters.  It will be cool to see what JT whips up over the next year or so.  Due to the time factor of producing Deep End custom stuff, JT makes about 90 to 100 custom decks per year.  Just like Pool King Skateboards, Deep End decks are the epitome of down south San Diego, CA , U.S.A. American skate culture (we’re locals).  Deep End decks are always made in S.D., CA, U.S.A. at the world’s best skateboard factory (Watson) from the most quality materials available.

Custom Deep End decks are not motivated by fame or fortune.  They are the product of nervous artistic energy and core skate mentalities.  Deep End products may be subject to sell out resulting in a period of unavailability (usually no more than two weeks)-just stay posted. JT’s medium will be mostly spray paint, sharpies, and grip tape.  Color schemes are sometimes available by request.  Deep End designs will vary from simple abstract spray paint designs to more elaborate hand drawn designs or something in between, and the same goes for the grip tape designs.  Due to the rapid sales of Deep End custom decks, processes cannot be design specific and the design you receive will be (a surprise) all sales final.  Tatum’s art style and methods are raw and stem from the underground.  JT creates in the middle of the night in a poorly lit, smoky garage with heavy tunes on the IPod.  Jeff’s preference for design subjects are skull ‘n’ snakes and spiders ‘n’ crosses kind of stuff, but he also enjoys changing it up with all types of subject matter.

“Hand ink and color on a piece of copy machine paper is what I’m into the most but even though I hate computers I’ve been learning how to do some cool art on the things (if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em).  I’ve also been doing spray paint stuff for forever (not graffiti) murals, skates, and I was into city art, but cool stuff that’s enjoyable, not scribble ‘n’ crap.  The first time I experienced public exposure of my stuff was on promo flyers for some San Diego punk bands in the 70s and 80s seen by a very small subculture.  It’s still a trip to see my stuff places, and when I do, I like to think of my art as pouring tasty poison into the mainstream that then flows into the ocean of bubble people curing their unfortunate affliction”. -JT

Deep End skate decks is proud to debut its first production deck. This Greg Fountain signature deck also features tattoo art by Greg Fountain. Greg has been a Pool King team rider for three years now and has been a big part of bringing the Pool King name to light. Over the last few years, Greg has been ripping contests all over the U.S. under amateur status while getting the notoriety of a pro appearing frequently in magazines, on T.V, national demos, prominent websites, and ads for major skate companies. When Pool King opened it’s Deep End division, it was a no brainer as to who would design the first Deep End deck, Greg Fountain of course.

Who says you have to be a pro to have a signature model? When it comes to skating, Greg has always done things his way and when it comes to making skateboards Pool King always has done the same. So when it comes to Deep End, the tradition will carry on of not following the status quo, but creating it. Greg will become pro soon enough but for now he’s more than worthy of his own deck. This world’s first amateur model, AKA bro model, is a 7 7/8” by 31 ¾” pop with the first 100 releases including a free Greg Fountain limited DVD and stickers by some of Greg’s supporters like Tracker, Ninja, Motto, Pro-Tec, Pool King, etc.

At Deep End we don’t follow the skate industry, we follow our spirit. We follow Greg Fountain and the spirit of all the young and old rad American skaters that are building skateboarding’s future. Just think! When this new trend catches on there could be a bro model with your name on it some day. For more Greg Fountain and Deep End info go to poolkingskateboards.com and fountainbros.com.
